Potential - #2

Before I go in to a full scale rant about how great it is I should achknowledge the fact that most of the real credit should infact go to the software it is used with..

Its a good size and weight for the job (11.2 ounces), whatever the moment determinds that job should be...
Its not hard to imagine someone buying two or more and setting them up as dedicated controllers if one just isnt enough, space/size definatly wouldnt be an issue. The LPD8 is about the same hight as your average lighter (12.2 x 3.1 x 1.1" (310 x 80 x 28mm) and sits nicely with your laptop.

As with all controllers of this type their usablity depends on the needs of the end user and how they customised it depending in what they are using,

The LPD8 interfaces with whatever by means USB (2.0 compatable 1.0) and you have 4 programs/presets to switch through. Once connected you have the knobs and velocity-sensitive pads at your disposal to tweek your desired paramaters (having assigned it in advance or on the fly).

The eight MPC-style pads light up when triggered when tapped but also responds to midi note on signal.
The pads "sends a value of 0-127 depending on how hard the pad is struck."
there is a lot of potential for control dpuopses, each pad send note with velocity with assignable program change and control message

The eight assignable knobs send midi CC# which can be roued where ever needed using most highend squencer/DAW software.

Tweeks

Most people develope some kind of routine or system for the things the regularly use, I however preffer a more static approach..
When using something like a soft synth I tend to assign a say knob#8 to control , then reassign that knob elsewhere a few minutes later. ..reassigning controls is instantainius and done using the software (reason for example), but is needed the akai LPB8 software can be used to load/save.

There are many presets floating around on the internet but I've never tried them, though I might try some with Ableton.  For improvisation they are perfect.
